A Chicago firefighter was in the DuPage County jail on $150,000 bond late Saturday, accused of trying to have sex with a minor in Elmhurst, authorities said.

Dennis P. Goggin, 42, of 3614 S. Union Ave., Chicago, was arrested Thursday and charged with indecent solicitation of a child and attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to Elmhurst police.

Goggin, a new member of a South Side fire company, has been placed on administrative leave and an internal review will be conducted into the allegations, said Larry Langford, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.

"Such alleged conduct in no way represents the fine men and women of the Chicago Fire Department," Fire Commissioner Raymond Orozco said in a statement.

Goggin was arrested as part of an Internet crime investigation, Elmhurst police Sgt. Steve Weatherford said, adding that additional details were unavailable.

The charges against Goggin are felonies. It was unclear if he had hired an attorney.

He also could face disciplinary action by the fire department, depending on the outcome of the investigation, Langford said.
