Atlanta coach Dan Reeves says quarterback Steve DeBerg knows the Falcons' system.

The 44-year-old DeBerg, who retired five years ago after a 17-year career, played for Reeves at Denver between 1981-83.

Tonight at Pontiac, Mich., DeBerg, who signed a one-year deal with the Falcons as a backup to Chris Chandler, is expected to play about three quarters of an exhibition game against the Detroit Lions.

``I'm just going out and play football,'' DeBerg said Thursday. ``I don't know what's going to happen.''
