FED: NSW backdown on Badgerys boycott threat = 2
Federal Transport Minister John Anderson said the NSW Government's backdown on an
infrastructure ban showed it had no concrete ideas on the airport issue.
Mr Anderson challenged the NSW Government to stop criticising and realistically look at
Sydney's airport needs.
He hoped the Federal and State governments could work together on the airport when a final
decision was made.
"We'll have to work this issue through, it was never going to be easy, but I just note that
the NSW Government seems to be against everything, they haven't actually clearly indicated
what their preferred option is," Mr Anderson said in Sydney today.
"Presumably they want to ensure there is a proper answer to Sydney's Airport needs in the
future and the onus is on them to make certain that they have a proper way forward.
"Sydney's airport needs have to be worked through, we have to have a solution for the sake
of Sydney's economy, New South Wales' economy and in particular to make sure it helps tourism
develop as well as helping Sydney turn into the financial hub we would all like to see it
become."
Federal Cabinet is expected to meet within weeks to decide on whether to accept the
Badgerys Creek site in the city's west as a second airport.
